Here's another letter that was published in the Sarnia Observer. Again, I did not write the letter and I do not know the person that did. Dean, I am particularly interested in your opinion on this.
Here it is, in its entirety:
Silence the radical feminists
Editorial - Friday, October 27, 2006 @ 09:00
Sir: Re: "Local women's groups react to funding" (The Observer, Oct. 16, 2006)
The federal government announced recently that it would cut $1 billion in wasteful spending eliminating the Law Commission of Canada and the Federal Court Challenges Program, while cutting spending for Status of Women Canada.
These are all radical feminist organizations and they DO NOT represent the majority (80 per cent) of Canadian women.
Rory Leishman, in an Oct. 4 article in an area newspaper, said, "The ultimate objective of the radical feminists is not just to redefine marriage but to abolish the legal concept of marriage altogether."
These feminist groups have become so powerful that they have even infiltrated our courts where many divorced fathers have been torn away from their children except to supply money.
I had a wonderful father. He was gentle, kind, caring and fun to be with. He was a soldier, serving Canada in the trenches in France. He could kill a human being if he were cornered, but he hated war. He stood behind me in all of my endeavours and pushed me to get a good education. He has been a powerful icon in my life.
Fathers have tremendous influence on their children. They love their children and want to be part of their lives.
I would like the government to take the $1 billion they have withdrawn from the above-mentioned feminist organizations and allocate it to a shelter for fathers who are tossed out of their homes in divorce situations. Men's shelters are desperately needed, where newly divorced fathers can reside for a while and get their lives together, where they can get counselling on how to proceed, legally, with courts.
Society screams that men abuse, but women, too, abuse, and women should be held accountable for their actions, not hide behind post-partum blues or other ailments.
In the 1970s, when I was a reporter for The Observer and covering the first fragile steps of females to assert themselves and make change, the feminist organizations were needed. Today, women are not as defenseless as they were then and feminism has risen to uncontrolled heights. Change is needed.
Michelle Batty with the Sarnia Sexual Survivors' Centre said in The Observer article, "While the average person might not feel affected by the cuts, the fact is everyone is a victim."
The Law Commission of Canada and the Court Challenges Program have, over the past 35 years, lavished millions of dollars on left-wing law professors for the production of one radical report after another, also creating victims.
The Harper government has taken the first steps toward silencing these radical feminists who represent only 20 per cent of women in Canada. We desperately need this change before the family unit disappears completely and before fathers, like my wonderful father, become ghosts.
