Imperial theatre Nov 24/06 8PM
There is a bar there and the drinks arn't expensive. Stop for Pizza and a beer or winw at Blackwarter Cafe before the show!!
Derek Edwards’ easy-going style and common sense insight are the essence of Canadiana. A riotous evening of comedy....like taking a ride in an open golf cart with a good friend and a 6-pack !
Having plied his trade from Las Vegas to Paris, from Victoria to St John’s, he maintains a delightful northern perspective in his side-splitting new show Sleepless in Gogama - a captivating combination of worldly innocence and simplistic genius!
A nine-year vet of the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and the only Canadian to win the prestigious Vail, Colorado, Invitational Comedy Competition, Edwards is universally considered to be among the top comics in the country. Certainly his peers think so, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee and the 2004/05 winner of Best Standup Comic at the Canadian Comedy Awards.
His gentle brand of humour, delivered with an ever-increasing incredulity as he delves into the oddities of everyday situations, has been showcased on A&E's Comedy Hits the Road, CTV's Comedy Now, CBC TV’s Comics (garnering him a Gemini nomination for best comedy) and CBC Radio's Madly Off In All Directions. He was also a regular guest on the Red Green Show.
And he’s not above a little self-deprecation, referring to himself as the second-best-known entertainer from Timmins, Ontario, after Shania Twain... "It’s like being the second-best-known person from Bethlehem. I’m screwed, nobody remembers Duncan of Nazareth."
