SARNIA- Country music fans again will have plenty to be excited about at this year's Rogers Bayfest.
Organizers of the festival announced Friday that hit trio Rascal Flatts will perform July 12. Emerson Drive and Big & Rich featuring Cowboy Troy will perform July 13.
Performers have not been announced for the first two days of Bayfest - July 10 and 11 - but Michele Stokley, festival co-founder, promised they'd be rock groups.
She said festival organizers are "in negotiations" but declined to comment further. It's unknown when an announcement may be made.
As for Rascal Flatts, Stokley said the group was close to signing on for last year's Bayfest but required a larger stage than was available at the time. By the time organizers bought a stage to accommodate the group, known for hits such as "What Hurts the Most" and "My Wish", no longer was available.
" ... we've never done so much to get a band," Stokely said.
Bayfest, which will be in it's 10th year next summer, has continued to grow. Last year's headliners included Aerosmith, Nickleback and Toby Keith.
Stokely said Aerosmith's concert sold out last year, bringing 20,000 people to Centennial Park. The same number of tickets will be on sale for each of this year's concerts.
Stokely said people can buy tickets, which go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 1, for the July 12 show, the July 13 show or both. Tickets can be upgraded for a fee when more performers are announced.
