CTV this week is airing a series on Domestic Violence. Sadly this series fails to acknowledge the inherent value of men within the family unit. A number of fathers were slated to tell their side of the story and instead were insulted and not permitted to make their true stories known. Below is some feedback on the series.
The series in general was a disappointment, a disgrace, a farce, a joke. Last night was ridiculous and unprofessional. Tonight, a lie.

I was told, prior to the interviews, that they wanted to show the other side, the sufferings fathers go through, but as it turned out it was all about men beating women and two minutes of two fathers talking about our problems but they cut the interview and only aired what did not harm them and nothing else, even the message I wanted to get across was cut. It was bad and I feel I was used.

Tonight's episode was anything but a boost to the idea of Fathers being abused. It consisted of nothing more than 20 minutes of everything that's was said being counter-balanced by the police and the crown and others. One Feminist Crown prosecutor was interviewed discounting anything to do with Fathers being abused and stated that the crown's view was that 95 % of domestic violence was committed by men. No argument was to be considered. This is a city where the women's groups can get 100 protestors with posters of lies and deceit on to the streets in hours-complete with three police escort vehicles. They have feminist radicals in paid liaison position at the Ottawa Police Headquarters and avowed man-haters on the staff. There are detectives on the force whose sole purpose is to create "statistics" for the purposes of exaggerating the true state of male domestic violence. And what do we have as men's representation and liaison with the Ottawa Police? Only those in jail. I know I tried to get the Ottawa Police to accept men and fathers on to the community liaison group. Their answer was to send two police detectives in leather coats to force down my door and occupy my room without warrant and reason. Yes-just like the Gestapo used to do. If the men and fathers of Ottawa had to ask for support services for a march down Elgin street we stand the chance of being completely ignored, ridiculed and even harassed and arrested. This is the reality of our position. I don't even have words for how bad things are. Now they even have CTV news reporters in their ranks.
The insult to end the overall insult was that at the end of of the program tonight they showed a lingering shot of the "Women's Memorial" in Ottawa surrounded by the symbolism of all of the women killed by "the inherent violence of men" (The translation from the French text on the stone) Last nights episode was the worst of course and was replete with descriptions and imagery of men beating children with sticks, sexual abuse and all kinds of outrageous and over-stated, over-inflated, and over-exaggerated (false) statistics. It was nothing more than mass character assassination. The so-called man's point of view in the segment tonight was just another attack on men covered in sugar coated lip service. The men interviewed and portrayed were seen as nothing more than perhaps something extraordinary. I ahve been trying for week using the access to information system to get information from the Ottawa Police about the number of domestic violence calls they attend to and how many are broken down by gender and arrest. I ahve been refused and denied at every turn. Yet tonight on the program CTV suddenly admitted the police had told them there are 6,000 domestic violence calls every year and that 20% of those are from men. Of course that means that they therefore record and insinuate by extension that 80 % of the calls are from women and therefore once more the majority instance is predominant Male on Female Violence. They also don't say that a fair percentage of the men calling in about domestic abuse invariably get arrested anyway and end up as statistics on the other side. This is the reality.
This CTV "special" was one of the most damaging pieces of TV journalism to ever hit Canadian TV screens. And the saddest thing of all is men and fathers out there who are currently at home in happy relationships with wives and children have no idea of the danger that waits in the wings. No-one understand completely the damage being done and no-one believes it until it happens to them. And we have no way of correcting any of this from any position of authority and strength at this time. There should have been mass protest over this and we should never have let it go on. We need to stand fast on these these things guys. Divided we are being destroyed. And with the mounting negativity being directed towards Men in general and fathers in particular if we don't start fighting together our very reputations-and that of our male children will be destroyed and will forever be affected. You ignore this threat at your peril and the peril of all of those dear to you. As one of our activists said to me the other day we "need 50,000 good men"... he wasn't kidding. He might even be understating that.
If ever there was a call to mobilize it is now.
